It was fun to watch these videos when they were first aired, but they are even more fun to watch today. For instance Shugart was wrong an every prediction he made here we know now but at the time, most people thought whatever he said was correct! 😂

30 years after this episode aired I assembled my 16 GB, 4790 K, GTX 970 system. Then I put Kubuntu on it. I do not miss Microsoft paint.

My first foray into computer art was on an Atari 130XE with Atari Touch Tablet and Atari Micro Illustrator. That was 160 x 192 pixels with 4 onscreen colours from a choice of 128 (16 hues x 8 shades). These days it's a Wacom Intuos and a 4K monitor.

This show is the one I needed to watch. The database appears to be a relational kind. I use Microsoft Access 2021, but I first used Microsoft Access 2002 after I bought my first Microcomputer "Cybernet" in that year. I learned to use the database by making my own tables, queries, and some reports by myself, without using the wizard. Yes, Microsoft Access is a relational kind of database program. It is my favorite application program, just above Microsoft Word that has been my springboard.

I watch these microcomputer technology shows because I love to see people use microcomputers in many ways from past to present. That makes me wish The Computer Chronicles would exist today. Next, I should watch The Computer Chronicles-Computers and the Olympics Part 1.

ah, my first machine - an AMD 386, 40mhz: it was 1992 and still 486s were mostly unaffordable. And yet, just 3 years later I could afford a Pentium 90mhz at the same price I paid for that 386. Good times (?)

Its amazing the longevity of the NT kernel, development started in 1989 and its still in use 35 years later and is wide spread. Dave Cutler who was the principal architect mentioned in an interview on Dave's garage channel probably about on 20% of the original code remains in todays Windows 11. It will likely decline in the coming years.

I still have an Amiga 1000 and Amiga 2000ss well as a Commodore 128, back in the day people with Apple, Atari computers would tell me that the Amiga computer was great at playing video games and I would reply that a Cray research XMP computer was even better to play video games on. the Amiga could software emulate an Apple Macintosh that ran faster then the Apple Macintosh, this was due to the Amiga having multiple processors, first the Motorola 68000 clocked at 7.14Mhz, then the Agnas processor that handled memory management operation as well as display processing via the sub copper co-processor and also a DMA controller. Then there was the Denise processer that handled the display generation and mouse / joystick position readers. At last there is Paula, the co-processor that handled 4 8 bit PCM audio channels up to 29K samples per second, Paula also handled joystick, serial io interrupts as well as floppy drive & the serial port. In 1992 I wrote a assembly program to have the 68000 send position date to the Paula chip to draw a star that was sent to 2 of the audio outputs, I tested it on a oscilloscope in the XYZ mode and it looked perfect than later ran to a straight audio amp that drove 2 real basic galvos that drew a star from a gas laser on the ceiling and… it worked, proudly showed it to my wife, she looked at the star on the ceiling, shrugged her shoulders and walked away 😉
